BackgroundArchitet-Urban Designer with working experience in both private and public commissions and participation in various scales of projects, extending from private residencies and hotel complexes to urban design and strategic planning development, with several architecture and urban design projects having been exhibited internationally and been awarded prizes. As I always remembered myself as wanting to discover new countries and chasing the opportunities to really delve into different educational systems and cultures other than my own, I decided to extend my studies in USA. Through this highly interdisciplinary master’s program in Urban Design at UC Berkeley, I had the chance to do research on environmental urban design. Working for my diploma project, I grew an interest in urban planning through participation, as I believe in people’s creativity and cooperation. This tendency was reinforced during an Educational Trip at MIT organized by Corallia and Greek associations from Stanford, Berkeley, MIT, Georgia Tech and UC San Diego , which also led me to become involved in the executive board of the program as well as in university teams &nbsp;(COMVOS) and other organizations in Thessaloniki. I started my architectural career as an intern at OHLAB studio and continued as junior Architect at Gras Reynes studio at Mallorca. Later on , as I pursued my career as an Architect/ Urban Designer at Smithgroup, I have dealt with issues ranging from both large scale analytics and urban development to architectural proposals. During my post graduate-studies at UC Berkeley, I gained teaching experience as Graduate Student Instructor for DISC 2019 (Design and Innovation for Sustainable Cities) program and working experience as Adobe Student Lead at UC Berkeley Digital and Learning Services, creating content for the program, developing/leading Adobe software consultations for campus affiliates. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;I currectly remain academically active, conducting research for my Ph.D in the area of&nbsp; Smart Cities and Innovation Ecosystems, focusing on big data, spatial analytics for the identification of the innovation determinants. During the last months I have been visiting student at Business School at Columbia University, working on examining innovation ecosystems, smart technologies to devise practical urban development frameworks for planners and policymakers in order to understand the innovation determinants. The field of the research is an area next to the city center. The idea was initiated by the identification of individual components of creative economy within the city.&nbsp; Our efforts to focus on a bottom-up approach to creating a city where people become carriers of change, created new opportunities for participatory processes (site investigations, mind maps, questionnaires). Thus, the regeneration is carried out through collective design, so that the area will be an organized activity receptor. Beer was brewed here for a hundred years, from the 1880s to the 1980s, when the buildings fell into disrepair. The Fix ruin now frames the Western City entrance to Thessaloniki. Car-dealers and music venues are the only commercial users. However, some alternative cultural institutions on site have already started giving the area a new life.&nbsp; This “Fix-it!”-project wants to support this reclamation by proposing turning some part of the site into a recycling-/ up-cycling center. From here, they get transported to the site and separated into glass, wood, paper, plastic etc.The items are displayed and sold in the market-area, near a central inner plaza that acts as the new heart of the Fix-Brewery-Site. There are drills, saws, tools and equipment for the craftsmen. Some heavy machinery can be seen in action, but behind glass, to avoid unpleasant smells, dust and noise. A loop guides visitors through the workshops. The workshop visit is followed by an optional visit of the refurbished brewery tower. A panoramic view of “old” and “new” and over the whole western city of Thessaloniki is to be enjoyed from here. It finds place in two adjacent brick buildings that overlook the nearby Plaza and martket. The ruined building remains roof-less and acts as a semi-outdoor space, while a cut in the neighbouring building brings natural daylight into the depth of the building. It also contains private workstations, a library and cinema. By using this approach, the triple helix comprising socio-spatial, socio-economic and socio-ecological factors is the underlying theoretical idea to structure the concrete goals thematically.This methodology provides the opportunity to evaluate the program goals on their value to the present community of Alameda. China’s Pearl River Delta. As reflected in historical maps, the island was formed by long-term a cretion of river sediments around two rock outcrops between the front channel of the Northern Pearl River and the Whampoa Canal. Eye-level renderings depict how one of the two rock outcrops provided foundations to the 16th century Pazhou Pagoda, which was a key landmark for ocean-going sailing ships ascending from the Humen Estuary to the natural port at Whampoa Harbor. Whampoa village on Pazhou Island remained a sizable urban settlement on the second rock outcrop of the island With the opening of the Pearl River Delta region to foreign investments Guangzhou experienced explosive growth since the 1980s, Pazhou Island’s strategic proximity to Guangzhou’s financial district has made it a prime location for urban development, and the western portion of the island became part of media and new technology district in the second decade of the 21st century. We also delineate alternative future conditions for the villages on the island, including a fishing village that is openly exposed to typhoonal wind and waves along the island’s south-eastern shore. Stormwater management: During periodic floods the island performs like a sponge. Six sizeable sloghs dissect the eastern portion of the Pazhou Island. Climate change will call for adaptability of designs to accomodate flooding conditions. These conditions, once considered extreme and rare, are now more frequently occuring. It is surrounded by the largest cities in the area, with ample access to the Peninsula, Oakland, and San Francisco via BART. And while the rest of the Bay Area has moved into a modern time, the San Lorenzo Village is stuck in time. The vast majority of the development occurred in the 1940’s and 50’s. This development was the beginning of the “California Method” of building, and houses were constructed in under an hour. While other suburban areas were made without community spaces, the main contractor for the San Lorenzo village ensured that plots were reserved for churches. Because of the massive construction in a short amount of time, the bu ilt form is incredibly static and stuck in time. Furthermore, the built form prioritized seperation over inclusion (with the exception of churches). However, the population and those that use these spaces are incredibly dynamic. The area has experienced volatile population shifts, with a complete reversal of demographics in the past two decades. Due to extreme housing discrimination, in the 1970’s, the population was 99% white. At present, the narrow majority of the population is non-white hispanic, with nearly equal representation from various ethnic groups. These are relatively underused. The area is home to a number of retail centers, chiefly the Bayfair Center, the Lorenzo Manor Shopping Center and a Greenhouse Mall. The history of development of the area was very sparse until speculative development for returning soliers took hold in the area in 1944. This spurred on the majority of development for the next decade. The main contractor for the San Lorenzo Village was David Bohannon, the future president of ULI. Wtih support from the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Bohannon built the largest fully FHA funded segregated development. During this time, Bohannon prefected the “California Method,” which brought sawmills on site to decrease the amount of time for building. These sorts of methods were attracted to unincorporated areas due to lack of building codes. The houses in San Lorenzo built in this time period are all almost exactly identical, with only slight variations (tweaks of the gable and a reversal of the floor plan). As a result, much of the neighborhood is extremely similar.
